To All the Boys I've Loved Before is my favourite movie, is a 2018 American teen romance film directed by Susan Johnson and written by Sofia Alvarez. The protagonist of the film is Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, Janel Parrish, Anna Cathcart, Madeleine Arthur, Emilijia Baranac, Israel Broussard and John Corbett.
The movies are based on Jenny Han's trilogy books and it was released for the first time on Netflix on August 17, 2018. Right now, only two of three movies have come out on Netflix.
From she was young, Lara Jean Covey, a new high school student, writes letters to the boys for who she feels an intense passion before hiding them in her closet.
One night, while spending the evening with Kitty, her little sister, Lara Jean falls asleep on the sofa. Kitty then goes into Lara Jean's room and finds her collection of letters. The following Monday, in high school, Lara Jean faces one of her former crush, Peter Kavinsky. He reveals that her letter was sent to him, and Lara Jean passes out. When she wakes up, she sees Josh approaching with his letter, and, in a moment of panic, Lara Jean kisses Peter before running away.
Peter takes it surprisingly well and suggests that he and Lara Jean pretend to go out together so that Gen, the former best friend and now a rival of Lara Jean and ex-girlfriend of Peter, is jealous. She accepts, and the two characters play comedy for the next few months, making the whole school, their friends and family believe in lies.
However, when Peter sees that Gen is jealous, he is confronted with his feelings. Meanwhile, Lara Jean is jealous of Gen. During a ski trip organized by the school, the two characters finally admit their feelings and kiss in a jacuzzi. At the end of the trip, Gen faces Lara Jean and tells him that Peter spent the night in his room after their kiss, and takes as proof a darling that Lara Jean had left to Peter, who was Lara Jean's favourite. Furious, Lara Jean breaks up with Peter and returns home, where she finds Margot, returned from university. Peter then arrives at Lara Jean's, hoping to be able to explain himself to Lara Jean, but Josh arrives at the same time. Margot hears their conversation and gets upset when she learns of Lara Jean's feelings for Josh. Things get worse when after Lara Jean asks Peter to leave, she discovers a video of her and Peter in the jacuzzi posted on Instagram, pretending that they made love.
Lara Jean asks Margot for help, who forgives and comforts her. Kitty then reveals that she was the one who sent the letters. Lara Jean is enraged then, but Margot calms her and asks her why the letters were addressed if she did not want them to be read. Lara Jean realizes then that she would have liked to send them but had not had the courage, and the three sisters forgive each other before sending an email to Instagram to delete the video.
I love this film because I have the impression that is a reflection of what we, the teenagers, can live. The stories of love, friendship, laughter and tears are part of our daily life, like this film.
